Amber is tree resin from coniferous trees that has 'aged' over millions of years due to water loss and has gradually mineralized. These trees were often referred to by the scientific species name Pinus succinifera . Amber dates from the Mesozoic to the Quaternary. Amber is usually warm yellow to dark red in color, but there are also more green, blue or even black colored varieties. Amber was the first gemstone in human history.
